A Higher Ed Nonprofit CEO’s Take on Education Equity

By Dr. Martha Kanter

Motivating students to pursue what’s possible requires more than a casual exchange between teacher and student. Itakes a greater focus on mentorship, representation and broader systemic change to center education equity, explains Dr. Martha Kanter, ETS Board of Trustees Member, CEO of College Promise and Senior Fellow at NYU Steinhardt Institute for Higher Education Policy.

Dr. Kanter’s work throughout the years has revealed that providing students with an equitable learning journey requires taking the time to understand the differences among individual learners and address those differences with the proper tools, resources and support systems unique to themDr. Kanter digs in deeper and shares why the basic needs of learners must be met and why educators, parents and other figures of support should push students to realize their potential and pursue their possibilities.
