ETS offers free access to Criterion® Online Writing Evaluation Service for spring semester

Web-based writing tool streamlines onboarding to support immediate distance learning needs

Teachers in online learning environments need digital tools to engage with students and drive instruction. To support educators with distance learning, ETS is offering free access to our proven Criterion® Online Writing Evaluation Service through June 30, 2020.

The Criterion service is a web-based writing tool that helps students in grades 4-12 plan, write and revise their essays. Designed to be fully-customized to instructor needs, ETS is currently providing the service complete with five weeks of pre-programmed content matched to students’ grade levels. By streamlining the onboarding process, we aim to make it easier for teachers to focus their energy on engaging with their students.

Available anywhere with an internet connection, the Criterion service provides students with immediate diagnostic feedback on their writing, as well as opportunities to collaborate through peer review and practice at their own pace. For instructors, the service helps improve efficiency while tailored reports provide a window into student progress, highlighting strengths and areas of improvement for individuals and for the class as a whole. Instructors can use their own topics or select from the Criterion topic library of more than 400 essay assignments at various skill levels.
